Our Story

We, The Woody Specials are a female gospel singing group established at Jesus Word Church, Durham, NC in 2009 by our founder and Pastor Annie Woody. The group consists of Promise Woody (Lead Singer/ Alto/ keyboardist), Vivian Taylor (soprano), and Tyneiqua Mercer (low alto). We have performed at the Holy Land in Orlando, FL and The Kirby Theater in Roxboro, NC. We participated in a 16 week competition at the Hayti in Durham, NC that lead us to the Apollo in New York City. We also sang on James Fortune’s CD release in DeSoto TX as well as Pastor Shirley Caesar’s 81st Birthday extravaganza. We have a single with a bonus track (Jesus Stepped In). Our desire is to serve the Lord and to spread his gospel to the world. God has sent us to bring you joy. We sing for the glory of God and to help bring his presence into the midst of his people.
